If you want to build your own garden room, start by designing it. What do you want to use it for? How large do you want it to be? Make sure you consider whether you will require planning permission at this stage. Then source the materials and lay the foundations. The next stage is to construct the room, which is the largest stage, and don’t forget about insulation, electrics and plumbing. Finally, paint or treat the exterior for protection. Building a garden room from scratch is a large task. If you want to do this yourself, start by coming up with a design then choose a place and lay the foundations. You will need to source all the materials and then construct the garden room, and don’t forget to install insulation. Also, make sure it has all the necessary plumbing and electrics. Or you could get us to do all the work for you instead.

Our garden rooms are available in a wide range of sizes. But when it comes to the maximum size, there are limits before you need to consider planning permission. Garden rooms should be a maximum overall height of three metres, or four metres for a dual-pitched room. They should also be no larger than 10m2, and 2.5 metres is the maximum height of the eaves. There are other restrictions, and it may depend on the size of your garden, so ask us and we will let you know if you need planning permission.

Insulation is important for a garden room if you want to use it during the winter in comfort and stay cooler in the summer. Building an insulated garden room is a large and specialist task. It is not something we recommend doing unless you have a lot of experience.
